Bearing Log — Privacy Policy

Bearing Log collects nothing. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. This document exists because the App Store requires a policy URL, and because “we collect nothing” deserves the detail behind it.

What leaves your device

Nothing. The app makes no network requests. It has no backend, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no third-party SDKs that could make a request on its behalf. App Transport Security is configured to disallow arbitrary loads, so there is no path for one to appear quietly in a later build.

What the app stores, and where

Everything Bearing Log records is written inside its own sandbox on your iPhone:

• Progress photos, at full capture resolution
• Body measurements you type in
• Weight, body fat percentage, and lean body mass
• Session timestamps and any notes you write

Files are written with complete file protection. While your phone is locked, they are unreadable, including by the app itself.

Health data

If you grant access, Bearing Log reads weight, body fat percentage, and lean body mass from Apple Health when you log a session, and copies those values into its own database so the reading stays attached to that session.

The app never writes to Health. It never shares Health data with anyone, which Apple’s HealthKit terms prohibit anyway. Access can be revoked at any time in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices, and the app keeps working without it.

Camera and Face ID

The camera is used only while you are capturing a session, and the resulting photos are written to the app sandbox. Bearing Log does not write to your Photos library unless you explicitly share a single image through the share sheet.

If you turn on app lock, Face ID or your passcode is checked by iOS. The app receives a yes or no. It never sees biometric data, and neither does anyone else.

Backups

If iCloud Backup is on, your device backs the app’s data up along with everything else on the phone. That backup is Apple’s, encrypted under your Apple Account. Turning on Advanced Data Protection makes it end-to-end encrypted. This is standard iOS behaviour and Bearing Log has no special role in it.

Getting your data out

Export produces a zip containing every original photo file plus JSON and CSV of all your records, or a CSV of the numbers alone. Where that file goes after you tap share is up to you.

Deleting your data

Deleting a session removes its records and its photo files. Settings has a delete-everything option that wipes the database and the photo store. Deleting the app removes all of it. Since nothing was ever sent anywhere, there is no copy elsewhere to request the deletion of.

Children

Bearing Log is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If a future version ever collects anything, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the App Store privacy label will change with it. The current answer is that it collects nothing.

This website

The policy above is the app's, and it is the document the App Store listing points at. This site is a separate thing and it is not silent, so here is what it does.

Page views are counted with Plausible, served from this domain rather than from theirs. No cookies are set, nothing is stored in your browser, and no profile of you exists to build on. What gets recorded is the page, the referrer, and a coarse guess at country and device type, none of which identifies you.

The support form is hosted by Netlify. What you type in it, including the address you give, goes to Netlify and then to us by email. Nothing else on this site collects anything, and none of it touches the app or your log.

If you would rather not be counted at all, any content blocker stops it, and the site works exactly the same.
